Why we Christians should celebrate Reformation Day (31 October)

The Holy Protestant Reformation is a victory for all Christians.

Because of the sacrifices of the Reformers who courageously challenged and opposed the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church, we are able to:

  1. Have the freedom to believe in true biblical Christian teachings.
  2. Translate the Holy Bible into languages understood by the people.
  3. Read the Holy Bible in languages we understand.
Because of the victory of the Reformers:

  1. The Pope and the Roman Catholic Church can no longer persecute Christians.
  2. The Roman Catholic Church no longer sell indulgences.
  3. Christians are no longer under the illegal authority of the Pope.

Reformation Day

On this day (31 October) 500 years ago, a German monk and professor nailed a document on a church door in Wittenburg, Germany to protest against the sale of indulgences. The man is Martin Luther and the document is known as the 95 Theses. This event would mark the beginning of the Holy Protestant Reformation and a century of struggle against the Roman Catholic Church.

Sola Scriptura

Introduction

'Sola Scriptura' (or 'Scriptures alone' in Latin) is the Christian doctrine that separates true Christians from Roman Catholics and others who claim to be Christians.

The Holy Bible (Holy Scriptures) is the Word of God and is 'given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works' (2 Timothy 3:16-17, KJV). Therefore, the Holy Bible is infallible, free from error, rightly being the only rule of life and faith, and has supreme authority over all Christians. Hence teachings that contradict the Holy Bible should be completely rejected.
